What this means

The comparison puts both vehicles on the same distance basis. EV energy from the wall is multiplied by your electricity price; fuel consumption is converted to litres per 100 kilometres and multiplied by your fuel price.

Petrol and diesel are scenario labels. The calculator does not add a fuel-specific correction, tax, density or emissions estimate, so enter the efficiency and price that match the vehicle and fuel you want to compare.

A lower result means lower entered energy or fuel cost for that particular price and consumption scenario. It is not a verdict about purchase cost, ownership, maintenance, emissions or which vehicle is right for you.

Formula & worked example

EV cost per 100 km = EV kWh per 100 km × electricity price per kWh
fuel cost per 100 km = fuel litres per 100 km × fuel price per litre
difference = fuel cost − EV cost

EV at 18 kWh/100 km and $0.25/kWh versus petrol at 7 L/100 km and $1.80/litre

18 × $0.25 = $4.50
Petrol cost per 100 km
7 × $1.80 = $12.60
Difference
$12.60 − $4.50 = $8.10

With these entered values, the EV energy cost is $8.10 lower per 100 km. The result changes if either price or efficiency changes.

Common questions

Does this compare total cost of ownership?
No. It compares only the energy or fuel cost produced by the values you enter. Purchase price, depreciation, insurance, maintenance, taxes, charging-network fees and emissions are not modeled.
Why does the calculator ask whether the fuel is petrol or diesel?
It keeps the scenario clear in the result and copied summary. The arithmetic still uses the economy and price you enter; no hidden fuel-specific factor is added.
Does the electricity price come from my country?
No. Enter the tariff or blended price you want to compare. The calculator does not infer a country or look up a supplier or charger.
Can the fuel result be lower than the EV result?
Yes. The direction depends on both prices and both consumption figures. The result names which entered scenario is lower and gives the difference per 100 km.
