What this means
Enter the energy your car draws from the wall for each 100 kilometres or miles. If a vehicle figure was measured only at the battery, include the charging losses yourself before entering it; this calculator does not add a hidden percentage.
The calculator converts the entered distance to kilometres, multiplies it by energy per 100 kilometres, and then applies the electricity price you entered. The same direct relationship produces the per-100-km, per-100-mile, trip and annual figures.
The annual-distance field is total distance for the year. Choosing a round trip doubles only the selected-trip result; it does not double your annual distance. All money values are generic and must use the same currency.
Formula & worked example
energy needed = distance in km × kWh per 100 km ÷ 100 charging cost = energy needed × entered price per kWh annual cost = annual distance in km × kWh per 100 km ÷ 100 × entered price per kWh
18 kWh/100 km, 100 km, one way, at $0.25 per kWh
- Energy for the trip
- 100 km × 18 ÷ 100 = 18 kWh
- Cost per 100 km
- 18 kWh × $0.25 = $4.50
- Annual energy at 12,000 km
- 12,000 km × 18 ÷ 100 = 2,160 kWh
The entered scenario costs $4.50 for the 100 km trip and $540 for 12,000 km at the entered price.
