What this means
The converter first turns the amount you entered into an annual gross figure. It then divides that annual figure into each other period. This keeps all six rows tied to one consistent total.
Hourly pay uses your hours per week multiplied by your working weeks per year. Daily pay separately uses your working days per week multiplied by those weeks. The two settings are independent, so the calculator does not assume how many hours make up one working day.
Monthly pay uses 12 calendar months. Fortnightly means one two-week period, so its annual factor is your working weeks divided by two. The results show equivalent gross pay; your payslip may differ.
Formula & worked example
annual gross = entered pay × entered-period periods per year hourly periods/year = hours/week × weeks/year daily periods/year = days/week × weeks/year weekly periods/year = weeks/year fortnightly periods/year = weeks/year ÷ 2 monthly periods/year = 12 annual periods/year = 1 pay for a period = annual gross ÷ that period's periods per year
$60,000 gross a year, 40 hours and 5 working days a week, across 52 weeks
- Monthly: $60,000 ÷ 12
- $5,000
- Weekly: $60,000 ÷ 52
- $1,153.85
- Daily: $60,000 ÷ (5 × 52)
- $230.77
- Hourly: $60,000 ÷ (40 × 52)
- $28.85
$60,000 a year is $5,000 a month or about $28.85 an hour under that schedule, before tax and deductions.
